Indoor flower festival blossoms with aT’s environmental message

Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (aT) is hosting an aromatic, colorful festival filled with flowers and plants this weekend to spread the beauty of horticulture, according to the state-run firm, Thursday.

The 5th Yangjae Flower Festa is being held to promote gardening culture throughout the country. The annual event also helps visitors think about the true meaning of the practice amid the climate crisis and how one can contribute to neutralizing carbon emissions by watering flowers and living with plants.

Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs that oversees the corporation, the event is held at aT Center, a convention hall in southern Seoul’s Yangjae-dong.

With the slogan “Blossom the Earth,” the festival features an indoor flower show, the first of its kind held by aT, and introduces works by 100 selective florists. Exhibitions also welcome those involved in flower businesses and a flea market with items useful for gardening as well as flower and plant seeds. An exhibition of flowers from 102 countries portrays a scene in which the world can be united by the natural beauty of flowers.

The event, while promoting flower gardening as a hobby, also seeks to boost the country’s horticulture industry. By hosting the event in November when market consumption for flowers is low, aT anticipates the event can remind visitors of the appeal of flowers and contribute to keeping the industry running stably throughout the year.

Kim Chun-jin, CEO of aT, said that with the natural beauty of flowers, the event suggests the direction for the country’s horticulture industry as the Earth’s climate is under threat.
