When selecting vegetables there are many options. Each variety has a unique set of traits including size, disease resistance and heat or cold tolerance.
Seeds can be direct sown in the garden once the soil warms up or purchased as plug plants to plant out. Each method has its pros and cons.
Lorna Mitchell can be found working in her vegetable garden every day of the year.
“It’s one of my passions,” said Mitchell, who has a BS in Agriculture and studied horticulture at the University of Arizona. She developed an interest in gardening as a child and has grown a garden for decades.
