Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Living A “Double Life”

Fall is a busy time on the homestead, especially if you raise animals. It’s also when everything in nature is at its most abundant.

Homesteading is a way of life that embraces sustainability and self-reliance. Looking ahead 10, 20 or 30 years, it’s widely believed cheap fossil fuels won’t be able to subsidize our importation of food and materials much longer.

Carrie Underwood may be one of the biggest female artists in country music. But, aside from that, the eight-time Grammy winner is also a loving mother to two sons, Isaiah Michael Fisher, 8, and Jacob Bryan Fisher, 4, and wife of former NHL hockey star Mike Fisher.

Opens Up About Living A “Double Life”

So when Underwood, 40, isn’t on stage performing in front of big audiences, she’s enjoying her time at home with her family – something she refers to as a “double life.”

“I love my role as a mom and a wife,” Underwood shared in a recent interview with Vegas Magazine. “In addition to what I get to do onstage, I go to baseball practice. It’s wonderfully ordinary, and I love that. In a lot of ways, I lead a double life. I’m mom at home, and then I fly away to Vegas or to go on tour.”

At home in Nashville, Tenn., Underwood enjoys using her green thumb and treating her guests to wholesome meals and snacks while her husband shows off his grill-master skills.

“I do very much enjoy gardening and homesteading. We grow fruits, like apples and peaches, and I feel like I’m always making something, like mead, out of honey,” she shared. “It’s really cool when people come over, and you can serve them bread that you made or some hard apple cider from your orchard. I like doing stuff like that. And my husband enjoys grilling. He’s a hunter, so everything in our freezers and fridge is pretty much things we’ve gathered ourselves, which is pretty cool.”

REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency

The “Hate My Heart” powerhouse, who has racked up 28 chart-topping hits and 10 Top 10 albums throughout her career, will mark the return of her REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency at Resorts World Las Vegas in June. And while the 90–minute show is full of energy and includes incredible features like pyrotechnics, waterfalls, dancing, and more, Underwood keeps her post-show downtime low-key.

“I don’t leave Resorts World too often,” she explains. “That’s one of the great things about Vegas in general—you can go and stay at your preferred place, and everything you need is right there.”

“I might pop into a restaurant if my husband’s in town, but I kind of keep to myself,” she continues. “For the most part, I just go to the grocery store because I enjoy having my own food around me. If I eat room service all the time, I’m not going to be able to fit into my tour clothes!”

“There’s Not A Dull Moment”

Underwood says she has more flexibility to pull out all the stops with her REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency, which launched in December of 2021. And as an artist who is known to stretch the boundaries on her tours, including her recent Denim & Rhinestones trek, having more opportunities to take things next-level in Vegas, means the upcoming shows are a must-watch.

“This show allows us to be more technical with different tricks up our sleeves since we don’t have to pack up all our stuff every night. It allows us to do things that we can’t do when we’re out on tour, which is cool,” Underwood shares. “We go straight for the jugular; there’s not a dull moment in the show. The crowds in Vegas are incredible because everybody’s from everywhere, and Vegas is just this epicenter of entertainment.”
