MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (KFVS) – A workshop series in southern Illinois teaches modern homesteading skills.
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Illinois Extension will host the series of programs throughout the year in Murphysboro.
According to a release from the Illinois Extension Office, the program was introduced in 2023 by Maggie Ray, an area foods and small farms program coordinator.
“Over the past year, 16 unique programs were offered covering topics like organic gardening, soap making, canning, seed saving, and more,” Ray said in the release. “While each program was a separate event in the series, many participants attended most of the monthly events.”
The introduction workshop was January 18. Other programs scheduled for 2024 include:
- Fruit Trees 101 – Feb. 1
- Small Fruits 101 – Feb. 22
- Composting – March 14
