LEVELLAND, Texas (KCBD) -This spring, SkyGardens in Levelland is opening its flower farm to visitors. It’s a special spot hidden among the dirt roads and cotton fields of the South Plains.
Skyler Richardson, born into a farming legacy that spans generations, envisioned a different path for the plot of land once her family once dedicated to cotton cultivation.
“Sometimes I think, like, this is an actual flower farm and I can’t believe we are actually here,” Richardson said.
COVID-19 changed Richardson’s plans of going to law school. Instead, she prayed for guidance and found herself pursuing her passion for farming.
“As that was going on, I was planning on going to law school and that couldn’t happen anymore, and I just kept on praying, ‘God, what is the next step?’ and ‘What is going to bring the most glory to you?’ and this is where we landed so here we are,” she said.
The roots of SkyGardens run deep, tracing back to Richardson’s great-grandparents, who chose the spot many years ago. While the fields no longer produce cotton, Richardson finds fulfillment in the work being done today.
“I hope they find great pride in it and great joy, and I feel like we are doing something pretty cool here,” Richardson said. “And I hope that God is getting all the glory in all of it.”
You can visit SkyGardens during its open farm nights, where you can pick your own flowers, enjoy the scenery, and even meet some baby bunnies.
“It’s amazing to see people enjoying our farm,” Richardson said.
The open farm hours are sent out every week. Richardson said the goal is to be open every Friday and Saturday evening, however, it varies depending on the blooms that week. You can find the schedule posted every week at SkyGardens Instagram page.
