Pune residents are in for a floral treat as the Empress Botanical Garden kicks off its much-anticipated flower exhibition, ‘Buds n Blooms-2024.’ Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, Vijay Kumar Magar, inaugurated the event and extended a warm invitation to the people of Pune to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of diverse flowers.
The exhibition, running from January 25 to January 28, 2024, is open to all citizens, offering a delightful showcase of various flowers, vegetables, and bonsai trees. Visitors can explore the exhibition daily from 9 am to 7 pm, witnessing the artistic display of flora in attractive arrangements.
In addition to the botanical wonders, the exhibition features stalls showcasing nurseries, agricultural implements, fertilizers, pots, gardening materials, and food. An intriguing highlight is a water tank transformed into a canvas for a floral depiction of a goddess, drawing crowds eager to witness this unique creation.
Managed by the Agri Horticultural Society of Western India, Empress Garden serves as a hub for various social activities aimed at fostering a love for nature and the environment. The organization, in operation since 1830, annually hosts a flower exhibition at Empress Garden in January, evolving from a pastime for select classes to a widely embraced event for people of all ages.
The exhibition goes beyond mere display, encouraging public participation through competitions such as artistic flower arrangements, vegetable contests, and the creation of attractive leaf pots. It provides a platform for garden enthusiasts to showcase their talents, with no entry fees involved.
Empress Garden, beautifully adorned during the flower show, attracts visitors not only from Pune but also from Kolhapur, Sangli, Nashik, and even Andhra Pradesh. Nursery professionals from various regions participate, adding to the diversity of the exhibition. The main draw this year includes Japanese-style floral arrangements and an array of bonsai trees crafted by talented contestants, promising a visual feast for flower aficionados.
As the Empress Garden transforms into a floral haven, attendees eagerly anticipate the annual flower festival, appreciating the efforts to make nature’s beauty accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
