Thinking about growing a vegetable garden but don’t know where to start? The New York Botanical Garden has you covered. The NYBG is offering online gardening classes so you can grow your own produce all summer long.
While you can’t wander through the botanical garden or take in-person classes right now, the beloved living museum is offering virtual courses to keep the community engaged. The first available classes are vegetable gardening based, and the timing couldn’t be any better. The Super Small Space Veggie Gardening class centers on growing vegetables in a limited area–whether it’s a terrace, roof, or tiny backyard. It starts tonight at 6 p.m. EDT and goes until 9 p.m. The class occurs every Tuesday until May 12. It costs $169 for members and $185 for non-members. The next upcoming class is Vegetable Gardening and focuses on everything from pre-planting procedures to post-harvest handling. That one is every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. EDT from April 29 to June 3. Members pay $265 and non-members pay $289.
If gardening isn’t your thing but you still want to get involved, the NYBG has a wide range of other upcoming classes. In May and beyond, you can take botanical watercoloring, learn about the science of tree communication, discuss the biology of psychedelic mushrooms, or try your hand at designing floral arrangements at home.
