A new study has revealed the five most popular flowers in Tennessee based on number of Google searches.
Gardening Chores, an online horticulture guide, analyzed the number of times per year Tennesseans search for different types of flowers. They also included results for “how to grow flower name” and “how to buy flower name” in order to get more accurate results.
According to the study, the most popular flower in Tennessee is Lavender, with 2,000 searches per year. Sunflowers ranked second, with about 1,400 searches per year.
Amber Noyes, a horticultural expert at Gardening Chores, was not particularly surprised by lavender’s number one ranking.
From its widely acknowledged pleasant fragrance to its beautiful violet flowers, it [lavender] provides a welcoming space for pollinators, and acts as an excellent repellant of nuisance garden insects, such as mosquitoes and ticks,” Noyes said. “With this in mind, it stands to reason that lavender would be the most popular flower in Tennessee.
Rounding out the top five was peony flowers, hydrangeas, and roses, each of which was in the range of 750-1,000 yearly searches from Tennesseans.
