With its captivating colour palette of heavenly gem shades and deep symbolism, the nigella is a charming addition to cottage garden bouquets and wreaths. It’s also a great flower for adding a touch of magic to gift arrangements.
The Emerald Necklace Garden Club celebrated summer on a high note with a jazz-inspired flower show.
Held on July 29 and 30, the “Jazz It Up” flower show drew a crowd to the Brecksville Community Center to admire 28 floral designs and 244 horticultural displays.
The show was a joint project of Emerald Necklace Garden Club and West Shore Arrangers, a regional club of flower arrangers.
Several floral arrangements incorporated full-size musical instruments while others featured music-inspired motifs. Horticultural entries included displays of cut flowers and plant specimens as well as dish gardens and containers grown by club members. The show also featured educational displays and seven botanical arts collage creations, which used flower petals and other materials from nature in the artwork. National Garden Club judges awarded ribbons to winning entries.
“We were delighted by the number of award-winning entries as well as the high turnout for this show,” said Pauline Dey, Emerald Necklace Garden Club president. “Many families attended together, and it was great to see children showing so much interest in the displays.” ∞
