The Cornwall Garden Society is set to brighten the early spring in Cornwall with its much-anticipated 2024 Spring Flower Show, taking place at The Royal Cornwall Showground near Wadebridge on the 6th and 7th of April. This year’s show, under the theme of celebrating Cornwall’s splendid spring flowers and shrubs, is generously sponsored by Cornish Lithium, Goonvean Group, and the Cornwall Community Foundation, marking a collaborative effort to showcase the best of Cornwall’s horticultural achievements.
The event promises to be a highlight of the horticultural calendar, featuring vibrant new attractions such as an immersive Cornish Garden highlighting sustainable gardening practices, a family-friendly Grow Your Own area, and educational Tipi Talks from both national and local horticultural experts. With the reveal of additional springtime surprises expected in the weeks to come, the show is geared up to offer an engaging experience for gardening enthusiasts of all levels.
The 2024 Spring Flower Show is not just a display of the finest blooms but also a competitive arena, with 41 trophies up for grabs across a range of categories. Show Director Mark Holman invites gardeners of all experiences, from seasoned experts to beginners, to participate in the Competitive Classes, showcasing their best blooms for a chance to win prestigious silverware.
Entries for the show are welcomed until the 22nd of March, with a straightforward submission process detailed on the Cornwall Garden Society’s website. The show will feature 149 classes covering a wide array of plants, from Ornamental Trees and Shrubs to Daffodils and Pot Plants, including sections for novices and Floral Art, encouraging wide participation.
Esteemed judges from the horticultural world, including Tony Kirkham MBE VMH, Jim Gardiner, and Michael Bowyer MBE, will lend their expertise to judge the diverse categories, ensuring a high standard of competition and recognition for outstanding horticultural achievements.
Tickets for the event are available for purchase online, with advance tickets priced at £10 and £12 on the gate and free entry for under 16s. The Cornwall Garden Society extends a warm invitation to all, emphasising that participation in the show is open to everyone, not just society members, and entry to all classes is free.
