TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Azalea and Spring Flower Trail is over 10 miles, where you can find hundreds of historic homes and of course, azaleas at every corner.
“I think everybody pretty much loves nature, loves the beauty of nature. They love flowers. They love, you know, just God’s creation; I mean it’s just beautiful,” said Visit Tyler Vice President of Sales, Susan Travis.
With the recent mild winter, the flowers are already blooming and ready for visitors to come. And so is Joan Pyron, owner of the iconic Pyron Garden within the trail. She has been preparing for the festival, making sure each flower is planted where it should be.
“I spend a lot of time in the yard, pulling weeds and cleaning things. I just am busy all the time and I love every minute of it,” said Pyron. “I love going and buying the flowers and coming home and planting them and deciding I need more.”
Her love for gardening has attracted many every year to see the colorful scenery.
“They love to come and walk through the Pyron Garden. This is definitely the highlight of the trails and has been for many many years,” said Travis.
Pyron added, “I love the people who come in the garden because people who come to the garden usually come because they love flowers.”
Those people can also expect something new this year as the event ends on Monday, April 8, which is the day of the Great American Total Solar Eclipse.
Travis said, “We’re really encouraging for people to make a four-day weekend out of it. Come to Tyler on Friday. There’s things, tons of things happening.”
Visit Tyler hopes the variety of events over the two weeks will draw more tourism to the city.
“That’s why we want them to come and spend a couple of days here, at least so they can get a taste of Tyler and what Tyler really is, and they’ll want to come back.”
The Azalea and Spring Flower Trail kicks off March 22 at 10 a.m. outside the Pyron Garden. The festival is free to attend.
