Those who choose to homestead typically do so because they want to be more self-sufficient and have a strong sense of independence. Looking ahead 10 or 20 years, cheap fossil fuels may no longer be able to pave the way for easy access to food and supplies.

FLETCHER, N.C. (WLOS) — With the price of everyday items rising, many people are looking to become more self sufficient.
The ‘Farm Where You Live’ homestead event is looking to help with that transition.

Around 1,500 people came out on Saturday to the WNC Ag Center to learn from experts the necessary information they need for success.
Organizers say anyone can thrive in homesteading with the right tools.
“That’s why we’re here,” said Josh Fisher, co-owner of ‘Farm Where You Live.’ “We’re trying to get people those resources to know, ‘hey, I don’t even know where to get started, I’m not a carpenter.’ Well, we’ve got people here today who are in that same boat who can give you that information.”
