Start A Vegetable Garden
Whether you have a full yard, a patio, or a balcony, starting a vegetable garden is easy and inexpensive. The key is planning your garden and learning how to grow the vegetables you love.
Vegetables need a well-drained soil that has high levels of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium to grow healthy plants. Test your soil before planting to find out the right amount of these nutrients for your area.
The Illinois Extension along with the Edwards County Master Gardeners are holding a free workshop about the basics of vegetable gardening. That workshop will take place on Tuesday, Aripl 18th from 5 until 7 pm at the Moravian church in West Salem. Discussion will include planning your garden, choosing your seeds and plants, best practices, soil maintenance, watering, and more. For more information, you can contact the Edwards County U of I Extension at 618-445-2934.
